Lexington

Longtime clients with whom Hocker has created visionary commercial projects sought help with their personal residence.

When the couple purchased this nondescript lot in Dallas’s Highland Park, it was devoid of both house and trees. Their absence presented a rare opportunity - tabula rasa. The site aims to develop a landscape that is integral to, if not inseparable from, the modern house that sits in its midst, designed by Austin-based Alterstudio. Most homes in the neighborhood are nostalgic in style—Norman, Tudor, Mediterranean, and Spanish Colonial dominate. The steel, glass, and stone residence breaks that mold, but does have a soft historic reference point in the Bud Oglesby home across the street. The design team's collaboration results in the materiality of the boomerang-shaped house and site materials finding similarity as an implication toward their kindred connection.
